Requirements for Home Inspectors in New Mexico


New Mexico Home Inspection Certification/License regulationsRequirements for license by training and examination:

(1) Application fee of $250
(2) 3-year license fee of $1,000
(3) National background check
(4) Proof of errors and omissions insurance (Totaling at least $250,000)
(5) Proof of professional liability insurance (Totaling at least $250,000)
(6) National exam score (National Home Inspector Exam or International Association of Certified Home Inspectors)
(7) 80 hours field training/30 parallel inspections (Field Experience Log)
(8) 80 hours education certificates – must include the following:

- Site characteristics and exterior
- Roofing
- Electrical
- Structural components
- Plumbing
- Heating, cooling, and air conditioning
- Insulation and ventilation
- Interiors, appliances, and garages
- Fireplaces and fuel-burning appliances
- NM standards of practice and code of ethics
- Business practices/report writing, inspection agreement, and NM regs
